I’m super late to this but I’m not going to let my ongoing ordeal of being unable to get an internet connection in my flat get in the way of my annual tradition of making a playlist based on the previous year of music. Here’s my 2013 one. It features a mix of favourite tracks, new bands and popular tunes. I hope you like it. My 2012 playlist is here and I’m sure you can find other years if you search through my Spotify profile. Enjoy!
I saw this photograph by David Vintiner at a recent visit to the Taylor Wessing Photographic Exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. It comes from a series called ‘Recall’ which was taken during the World Memory Championships. (via David Vintiner)
Every time I take a trip to the V&A I always pay a visit to this small water jar. I love how intricate the lace-style detailing is inside it, particularly when the outside is so simple and plain. Made in Egypt sometime between the 11th and 12th century, the museum believe that these jars were used as water bottles and that the rosette design filter was used to keep bugs out. It looks even better in real life. (via Water jar | V&A Search the Collections)
As a small Christmas present for fans of Funeral Suits I made a selection of illustrated paper dolls inspired by the character’s in Shaun Ryan’s fantastic music videos. You can print them out at home from the band’s website here. The band are encouraging people to do whatever they’d like with them and so to get the ball rolling I put together a short and silly animation using them. You can take a look:
My pals Funeral Suits have just released a great new video for the Nat Walker remix of their song ‘All Those Friendly People’. Made by Shaun Ryan (the director of the original video), it shows a blossoming romance between a young couple in Dublin.
Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for two little paper dolls that show up for a couple of seconds in the video. They’re a nod to the characters from the track’s original video. I illustrated them and they’re included as a free little extra with the band’s latest EP.
